A growing area because of its convenience to main thoroughfares, the Matthews/Ballantyne area provides many amenities that enhance the quality of family life. The Siskey and the Ballantyne YMCAs, both relatively new and fully appointed recreation and exercise facilities, as well as Colonel J. Beattie Park, the largest Mecklenburg County Park, provides lakes, hiking and picnicking. It is also one of the few areas in the county that still allows horses.
This area is growing so rapidly that a new entrance for the I-486 loop is already planned.
The Ballantyne professional parks are the home to many businesses in Charlotte. In fact, many technology companies have begun to locate offices and headquarters in this area.
The Ballantyne and Stonecrest Shopping areas are filed with popular retail shops and restaurants while the quaint Matthews downtown adds it own unique blend of shops, restaurants and a weekend farmers’ market.
